Dr. Mutha is director of Healthforce Center, a professor of clinical medicine and internist at the University of California, San Francisco. As director of Healthforce Center at UCSF, Dr. Mutha leads the organization’s efforts to integrate experiential leadership training with workforce research, to ensure a more effective and equitable health care. She has over a decade of experience working on leadership development programs for health professionals.
Dr. Mutha is also a nationally recognized expert in health workforce training and cultural competence training. She has led workshops training over 1000 clinicians nationally on strategies for improving communication to deliver culturally appropriate care. She has served on multiple panels and boards including the Joint Commission’s Expert Advisory Panel guiding the development of hospital standards for culturally competent patient-centered care; the National Quality Forum’s Cultural Competence Steering Committee; the board of directors for Brown and Toland Medical Group, a comprehensive, multi-specialty independent practice association. She currently serves on the board of directors for Insure the Uninsured Project, a trusted voice for emphasizing opportunities for California leadership and action to advance health reform, regardless of the federal context.
