Julie Rish, PhD is a Clinical Psychologist and Associate Chief Improvement Officer of Design at the Cleveland Clinic.  She is the Director of Communication Skills Training and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Rish also leads Insights Studio, Cleveland Clinic’s integrated human-centered design capabilities. There, she seeks the perspectives from both patients and caregivers, identifies what they aim to achieve, how they want to be treated and uses this knowledge to develop innovative strategies and concepts to transform and improve healthcare. She has been instrumental in re-defining healthcare on an enterprise level including Plan of Care Visits which improved patient care at the bedside, revolutionizing physical building design space to evolve cancer care and expanding how we visualize and access healthcare.  Dr. Rish’s passionate advocacy for designing with people is conveyed throughout her roles as she believes in its significant impact to build a better experience for all who use and work in in healthcare.
