Before pursuing his degree in Medicine, Dr. Hinchey was a teacher and coach at the high school level.


He has been a primary care physician for over 25 years and has distinguished himself as an educator and innovator in medical education.  He has received both regional and National awards for innovations in education including the Distinguished Medical Educator Award from the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM) in 2014.


Dr. Hinchey has held several leadership roles in healthcare, including medical director of an inner city clinic, program director of an internal medicine residency program, the Interim Chairman in the department of medicine, and one of the founding chief medical officers of the BeHealthy Accountable Care Organization (ACO).  


He now serves as the Chief Education Officer and Senior Associate Dean of Education for UMMS-Baystate.
